How Reeds are Tuned
A reed's pitch is determined by its mass and stiffness. To tune a reed:
- To raise pitch (make sharp): File the tip of the reed slightly to reduce mass.
- To lower pitch (make flat): File the base of the reed slightly to reduce stiffness.
